Iran, Iraq coordinate withdrawal of anti-Iran groups from border region

09 September 2024 16:30

Anti-Iranian terrorist groups, including the Komalah, are being pushed away from the Iran-Iraq border, according to an informed source.

The retreat comes at the request of the Iranian government and is being coordinated with the central government in Baghdad, as well as Iran's Supreme National Security Council, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), the Intelligence Ministry, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.

The source revealed that the Kurdish populations in both Iran and Iraq had long been demanding the disarmament and relocation of these hostile groups. These groups, according to the source, have been involved in "ransom-taking, assassinations, and recruiting child soldiers" from their bases near the border.

Furthermore, the source added, "The border bases had turned into locations for cooperation with the Zionist regime to hatch plots against Iran."

In a bid to ensure lasting security, Tehran pushed for the evacuation of these hostile bases. The source confirmed that the anti-Iranian Kurdish groups, including Komalah, have now been relocated to deeper areas within the Iraqi Kurdistan Region after being disarmed.

“The Komalah terrorist group has been deprived of its independence as they are planned to be inside the base under the full supervision of the Iraqi government,” the source added.

This move follows a security agreement signed between Tehran and Baghdad in March 2023, under which the Iraqi government committed to disarming and relocating anti-Iranian terrorist and separatist groups in Iraq's northern Kurdistan region to secure the common border between the two nations.
