Türkiye to send back Sudanese passenger stranded at Istanbul Airport for 40+ days
A Sudanese man who has been stranded at Istanbul Airport for more than 40 days will soon be sent back to his home country, according to the Turkish civil aviation news platform Havasosyalmedya.
“While the case of the Sudanese passenger, especially among travellers from African countries, has drawn public attention, it is not unique. Airlines often leave passengers who do not meet travel requirements stranded in the international departures area,” Caliber.Az quotes the platform as saying in a message.
The publication noted that some of these passengers purchase new tickets and continue their journey with different airlines, while others who refuse to fly remain in the terminal for extended periods. Turkish authorities have also indicated that some attempt to enter European countries illegally using forged passports.
“None of those who stay in the terminal for long periods are innocent travellers who ‘want to leave but cannot.’ The Sudanese passenger is being returned home,” the report added.
