Türkiye begins implementing law aimed at ending PKK conflict

24 August 2026 09:50

Türkiye has begun implementing a new law aimed at supporting national solidarity and social integration as part of the government’s “Türkiye Without Terrorism” initiative, with the process focused on the disbanding and disarmament of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).

The first meeting of the Supervisory Board overseeing the process will be chaired by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz. The board is expected to discuss the PKK’s dissolution, the surrender of its weapons and the integration of its members into Turkish society, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.

The council will monitor the process until the PKK and affiliated groups have been fully disarmed.

Once the organisation officially ceases to exist, the legal process for integrating its members into society is expected to begin within six months.
