Iranian leader: BRICS cooperation to mark end of unipolar world
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that the collaboration among BRICS member countries would signify the end of the American unipolar world before his departure to Kazan for the summit.
He expressed confidence that the heads of state participating in this summit will present their perspectives on BRICS, suggesting that the event could overshadow the dominance of the American unipolar world, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
"BRICS is a path to escape from American totalitarianism," he asserted.
Pezeshkian highlighted that the trip is made at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin and represents a meeting of BRICS leaders striving to build a multipolar world.
The Iranian President emphasized the necessity of cooperation within BRICS for achieving "unity and cohesion," as well as for reducing dependence on the United States and the American dollar.
He also expressed hope for reaching "good agreements in the fields of energy, industry, trade, and tourism" during the summit, and he intends to engage in discussions with Russian President, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
The BRICS summit will commence today, October 22, in Kazan, lasting for three days. The event will start with a ceremony to welcome the heads of delegations arriving for an informal lunch.
This marks the 16th meeting of the BRICS grouping, which will be attended by representatives from 33 countries. Established in 2006, BRICS is an association of countries named after its initial members: Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa.
Since its founding, the United Arab Emirates, Iran, Egypt, and Ethiopia have joined the group. Russia took over the BRICS presidency in 2024. The summit's agenda includes numerous economic issues that align with the interests of all member countries.
