Israel Defense Forces conduct airstrikes on Syrian port of Baniyas
Powerful explosions rocked the Syrian port of Baniyas, located between Latakia and Tartus, during the night of July 9.
Israel conducted an air attack from the Mediterranean Sea, targeting an area near Baniyas at approximately 00:20 (GMT+3), Caliber.Az reports citing the foreign media.
The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a prominent monitoring group, confirmed that two powerful explosions were heard in Baniyas. Syrian opposition sources also reported that two airstrikes took place. These sources indicated that Iranian weapons, recently delivered to the port for the Lebanese Hezbollah movement, were likely targeted. The strikes resulted in fatalities and injuries, and subsequent detonations of ammunition led to severe fires.
Despite the widespread reports and confirmations from various sources, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have not commented on the incident.
The situation remains tense as the region grapples with the aftermath of the attack, highlighting ongoing conflicts and geopolitical tensions involving Israel, Syria, Iran, and Hezbollah. Further developments are anticipated as more information becomes available and the impact of the airstrikes is assessed.
