Israeli FM declines to discuss support for Ukraine
Israel supports Ukraine in the conflict with Russia and is "on the right side of history", Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen has said.
This is how he responded to the accusations of the Ukrainian embassy in Israel, which saw Tel Aviv's rapprochement with Moscow and accused it of a "pro-Russian position", RBC reports.
To recap, Cohen made the remarks in an interview with army radio Galey IDF.
"I do not intend to descend to this discourse. I announced that we support the sovereignty and [territorial] integrity of Ukraine. We voted [in support of Kyiv] at the UN, [Israeli] servicemen met Ukrainian servicemen, and we are providing humanitarian assistance. Israel is on the right side of history," the radio's Twitter page quoted Cohen as saying.
The Ukrainian embassy in Israel published a statement on its Facebook page (owned by Meta, which is recognised as extremist and banned in Russia) accusing the Israeli authorities of "disregard for moral boundaries" due to the appearance of high-ranking officials at a diplomatic reception at the Russian embassy in Jerusalem.
