Israeli troops destroy 3-kilometre tunnel near Khan Yunis
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are intensifying their campaign to dismantle infrastructure in the Gaza Strip used by the armed wing of the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
In the southern Gaza enclave near the city of Khan Yunis, Israeli paratroopers, in coordination with engineering units, recently destroyed an underground tunnel stretching approximately 3 kilometres, Caliber.Az reports, citing the army press service
The military stated that militants used the tunnel for conducting terrorist activities.
Additionally, during recent clashes in the Khan Yunis area, Israeli ground forces, supported by air strikes, eliminated dozens of militants in close combat and destroyed hundreds of military infrastructure targets, including command centers, tunnel entrances, and hideouts, the press service added.
The operation near Khan Yunis is part of the IDF’s broader campaign launched in response to Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, which, according to Israeli figures, killed over 1,200 people and led to the capture of 251 hostages.
By July 2025, the conflict had resulted in significant casualties, with the Hamas-run Gaza Health Ministry reporting over 56,500 Palestinian deaths since October 2023.
