Average gas prices in Europe rise 9% in 2025
01 January 2026 14:22
The average price of natural gas in Europe rose by 9% in 2025, reaching approximately $422 per thousand cubic metres by the end of the year, futures data from the London-based ICE exchange confirms.
The increase was driven in part by the early commencement of gas storage replenishment ahead of the winter season, supported by record levels of liquefied natural gas (LNG) imports.
Despite the annual rise, prices eased toward the end of the year. On December 31, 2025, gas trading closed at $344 per thousand cubic metres, broadly in line with November levels and 36% lower than at the end of 2024.
Market analysts noted that a modest price uptick in the final days of the year was linked to colder weather conditions across Europe.
