Japan sends diplomatic note to China
The Japanese government has said that a lot of phone calls were made to Japanese citizens, presumably from Chinese phone numbers, about the discharge of water from the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant into the ocean.
According to a statement released by the Japanese Foreign Ministry, the Chinese authorities received a diplomatic note in this regard, TASS reports.
The phone calls were also made to Japanese organisations based in China, the statement says.
Japanese authorities said that this situation is regrettable, demanding China to call on citizens to restraint. According to the information, it is necessary to trust only verified information on the topic of water discharge into the ocean.
The Japanese Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) began to dump the first batch of water purified from radiation from Fukushima-1 on August 24. The liquid is poured to the ocean, previously diluted with sea water and reducing the tritium content.
An accident occurred at the Fukushima-1 nuclear power plant as a result of a powerful tsunami in 2011. This disabled the power supply and cooling systems of the station, nuclear fuel melted in the reactors of three power units and burned through the protective shells. A hydrogen exploded and the fourth power unit was damaged.
