Russia strikes Azerbaijani oil and gas facilities in Ukraine, Baku prepares response Caliber.Az exclusive
Today, a phone conversation took place between the Presidents of Azerbaijan and Ukraine, Ilham Aliyev and Volodymyr Zelenskyy, during which the issue of Russian military strikes on Ukraine’s gas infrastructure—through which Azerbaijani gas flows—as well as on SOCAR’s oil depot in Odesa, was discussed. The leaders expressed outrage at the actions of the Russian armed forces.
According to information which Caliber.Az obtained from reliable sources, if Russia continues its aggressive policy against Azerbaijan’s interests, official Baku will begin considering the possibility of lifting the arms embargo on supplies to Ukraine from its arsenal.
Let's note that the Russian armed forces have begun systematically striking Azerbaijan’s energy facilities on Ukrainian territory. This situation forces Baku to take retaliatory measures. All of this will inevitably lead to a further deepening of the crisis in bilateral relations.
As a reminder, during the night of August 7–8, 2025, Russian forces attacked the oil depot of the Azerbaijani company SOCAR in the Odesa region of Ukraine. Russia launched five Shahed strike drones at the SOCAR oil depot, causing a fire and damaging a diesel pipeline. Four company employees sustained serious injuries. This is already the second attack in recent weeks on facilities in Ukraine linked to Azerbaijan. Earlier, a gas distribution station near Orlovka, a key element of the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline through which Azerbaijani gas began flowing into Ukraine on June 28, was attacked.
