Russian FM to visit Tehran for strategic partnership talks
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will arrive in Tehran on February 25 for a working visit at the invitation of his Iranian counterpart, Abbas Araghchi, according to a statement from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Ministry emphasised that the bilateral relations between the two nations have reached the level of a comprehensive strategic partnership following the signing of a new foundational intergovernmental agreement in Moscow on January 17, Caliber.Az reports per Russian Foreign Ministry.
Key topics for discussion during Lavrov’s visit are expected to include expanding trade and economic cooperation, as well as implementing joint projects in the energy and transport sectors.
The Ministry also noted that the two sides are set to exchange views on current international issues, including the situation in the South Caucasus, Afghanistan, Yemen, the Persian Gulf, Middle East peace efforts, Caspian Sea matters, and the prospects for the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) concerning Iran’s nuclear programme.
