Media: Gaza ceasefire deal may free 1,000 Palestinians, boost humanitarian aid
At least 1,000 Palestinian prisoners are set to be released from Israeli jails as part of a proposed agreement between Israel and Hamas aimed at de-escalating the situation in Gaza.
Citing unnamed sources, Maan stated that the deal could see the release of more than 1,000 detainees, including at least 100 Arab prisoners currently serving life sentences, Caliber.Az reports.
The proposed arrangement also includes the delivery of tens of thousands of truckloads of humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip.
However, Israel is reportedly not planning to relinquish control over the distribution centres operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Aid Fund, which Tel Aviv believes help prevent Hamas affiliates from accessing relief efforts.
A key component of the reported agreement is the potential to resume negotiations on a permanent end to hostilities once a 60-day ceasefire period concludes.
Maan notes that the United States is expected to serve as the guarantor of this clause, ensuring both sides remain committed to a constructive dialogue.
