Media: Pashinyan set to replace Armenian ambassador to Russia
The Armenian authorities are discussing the issue of replacing the republic's ambassador to Russia.
As the newspaper writes, there is a need to restart relations between Armenia and Russia, and the parties, realizing this, are taking some steps. The first of them is the change of ambassadors, the Hraparak newspaper reported on August 3, according to Caliber.Az.
“Russia is so dissatisfied with the Armenian ambassador that this issue will be resolved as a matter of priority. The issue of replacing Vagharshak Harutyunyan has been discussed for a long time, but there was a problem with choosing a candidate who would enjoy the confidence of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and, at the same time, be acceptable to the Russian authorities,” the publication says.
According to the newspaper, a number of candidates were discussed. And the Armenian side, it seems, settled on the candidacy of the current deputy of the Armenian parliament from the Civil Contract faction, Gurgen Arsenyan.
“And the candidate for the post of Russian ambassador to the Republic of Armenia is a high-ranking official of the Russian Foreign Ministry. It also shows that Russia understands the importance of Armenia and cooperation with it,” the publication notes.
It is noted that the Ambassador of Armenia to Russia Vagharshak Harutyunyan was appointed to this position on January 5, 2022.
Russian Ambassador to Armenia Sergey Kopyrkin has been in office since April 6, 2018.
