Georgian parliament starts activity amid protests outside building
The Georgian parliament has begun its work despite protests that took place outside the parliament building.
The composition of the parliament was elected during the October 26 elections. The MPs voted in favor of a resolution recognising their own rights and authority as parliamentarians by a majority, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
According to the Constitution of Georgia, once the parliament begins its duties, the government resigns. From this point forward, all ministers, as well as the prime minister, will serve in an acting capacity until a new cabinet of ministers is approved.
Only 88 MPs from the ruling "Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia" party are present in the parliamentary hall, as representatives of opposition parties refuse to recognise the results of the parliamentary elections and have announced their decision to boycott the parliament’s activity.
They also periodically hold protests. One such rally is being held outside the parliament building on Rustaveli Avenue on November 25. The atmosphere at the protest is calm.
