Ambassador: Russia to keep supporting Armenia's security bilaterally and through CSTO
Sergey Kopyrkin, Russia's ambassador to Armenia, reaffirmed Russia's commitment to ensuring Armenia's security both bilaterally and through the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
"Russia remains committed to its obligations to ensure Armenia's security, both in bilateral terms and within the framework of the CSTO," Kopyrkin stated, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
He emphasized that there are no comparable alternatives to the Russian-Armenian alliance, particularly in the context of the CSTO.
Kopyrkin also highlighted Russia's efforts to foster a unified and indivisible security system across the Eurasian continent.
This concept, initially proposed by Russian President Vladimir Putin on June 14 of this year during a meeting with Russia's Foreign Ministry, was further discussed at the recent BRICS summit in Kazan.
Addressing the delicate issue of negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Kopyrkin acknowledged that achieving mutually acceptable compromises is "a complicated process that requires time."
"Russia is consistently ready to assist our Armenian and Azerbaijani partners in resolving bilateral issues, following the spirit and letter of the trilateral agreements signed by the leaders of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan in 2020-2022," he explained. "The forms and scope of this assistance should be determined by the negotiating parties themselves."
Kopyrkin expressed satisfaction with the recent high-level contacts between Armenia and Azerbaijan at the BRICS summit in Kazan on October 24, which he believes have provided a positive impetus to the ongoing dialogue aimed at normalizing relations between the two countries.
