Iranian airlines continue flights to Armenia, Russia despite US sanctions

Iranian airlines continue to operate flights to Armenia, Russia, China and Türkiye despite new US sanctions targeting the country’s aviation sector.

Ramin Kashef Azar, CEO of Imam Khomeini International Airport, said flights to the four countries were continuing, Caliber.Az reports, citing the online departure board of Armenia’s Zvartnots International Airport.

Two flights from Tehran were scheduled to arrive in Yerevan on September 25, according to the board.

New US sanctions targeting Iran’s aviation sector took effect on September 23. Under the restrictions, airports and companies providing services to Iranian carriers could face the risk of being excluded from the US dollar financial system.

Earlier, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Oman, the United Arab Emirates and Iraq closed their airports to Iranian carriers.
