Azerbaijan honours martyrs of 44-day Patriotic War at Yekaterinburg consulate PHOTO

A memorial event dedicated to Azerbaijan’s September 27 Remembrance Day was held at the country’s Consulate General in Yekaterinburg, honouring servicemen and other martyrs who died for Azerbaijan’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Opening the event, Acting Consul General Asim Osmanov spoke about the history of the 44-day war, which Azerbaijan officially refers to as the Patriotic War.

Osmanov said that on September 27, 2020, the Azerbaijani Army launched a counteroffensive in response to another military provocation by Armenia. According to the diplomat, the 44-day conflict resulted in the restoration of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.

Participants also discussed what they described as new realities in the region following the war and the peace process pursued at Azerbaijan’s initiative. They highlighted the significance of a meeting between the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and the United States in Washington on August 8, 2025.

Osmanov also said that large-scale construction and reconstruction projects were continuing in Azerbaijan’s liberated territories.

The Remembrance Day event continued with speeches by representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora, members of the Sverdlovsk Regional Branch of the Azerbaijan Youth Organisation of Russia and Mushfig Aghababayev, a lecturer at the Ural State University of Economics.
