Kremlin: Putin and Trump raised prospect of Russia-Ukraine-US talks

The Kremlin says a possible meeting between Russian, Ukrainian and US representatives has been discussed by Presidents Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump.

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the idea was raised during a phone call between the two leaders, but no concrete arrangements had yet been made, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

“Such a discussion did take place,” Peskov told reporters. He said the sides had discussed the possibility of holding such a meeting “in the near future”, but declined to provide further details.

Peskov also said it was too early to assess the results of a visit to the US by Kirill Dmitriev, Russia’s special representative for investment and economic cooperation and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund.

He said Dmitriev was continuing contacts with US negotiators, focusing on potential economic cooperation, which the two sides understood could be mutually beneficial.

Dmitriev met US presidential envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in New York on September 24. According to sources cited by US media, their discussions included US-Russian cooperation and efforts towards a peaceful settlement of the conflict in Ukraine.

Reuters had previously reported that other issues discussed during Witkoff and Kushner’s visit to Moscow in early September were also expected to be raised.
