Georgia to invest $7 billion in major infrastructure projects by 2032

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said the country plans to invest $7 billion in major transport infrastructure projects by 2032, as he called for international conflicts to be resolved through dialogue and mutual respect in an address to the 81st session of the UN General Assembly.

Kobakhidze said lasting peace could not be achieved through the use of force and should instead be based on dialogue, mutual understanding and respect. He added that Georgia, despite having faced repeated challenges, continued to determine its own path.

The planned investment will focus on major infrastructure projects intended to strengthen Georgia’s connectivity, including the modernisation of the railway network, expansion of the country’s highway network, development of the Anaklia deep-sea port and construction of a new international airport in Tbilisi.

Georgia also plans to strengthen digital connectivity through a submarine fiber-optic cable across the Black Sea and new-generation data infrastructure, with the aim of developing secure, sustainable and diversified digital links between Europe and Asia, Kobakhidze said.

Kobakhidze said Georgia was committed to working with international partners and contributing to efforts to make the United Nations more effective, transparent and accountable.
