Mudflow threat leaves people stranded at Russia-Georgia border VIDEO

Around 1,000 people have been stranded at the Russia-Georgia border amid the threat of a possible mudflow.

The Upper Lars checkpoint was closed in both directions early in the morning, with queues stretching for several kilometres on the approach to the border, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

Sensors at the Devdoraki Glacier reportedly detected a rise in water levels following heavy rain on September 24, prompting concerns over a possible mudflow.

Customs officers at the Dariali checkpoint and residents on the Georgian side were evacuated.
