Peskov: Russia in no hurry to appoint ambassadors to Britain, France

The Kremlin sees no need to rush the appointment of new Russian ambassadors to the United Kingdom and France, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on September 25.

Peskov said presidential decrees removing ambassadors from their posts and appointing their successors “are not necessarily signed simultaneously” and that “there may be certain pauses”.

“Especially since you can see for yourself that, in the absence of bilateral relations, there is not really any particular need to rush,” Peskov said, according to RBC.

His remarks came after President Vladimir Putin dismissed Andrei Kelin as Russia’s ambassador to the United Kingdom on September 25. A day earlier, Putin relieved Alexei Meshkov of his post as ambassador to France and Monaco.

Meshkov had served as Russia’s ambassador to France and Monaco since October 23, 2017, while Kelin had held the ambassadorial post in Britain since November 2019.
