Moscow warns Armenia over plans to seek gas “from everywhere”

Abandoning Russian natural gas would be significantly more painful for Armenia than for Germany or other European countries, Alexey Shevtsov, Deputy Secretary of Russia’s Security Council, has said.

“There is no doubt that for Armenia, abandoning Russian ‘blue fuel’ would be far more painful than for Germany or other European countries,” Shevtsov said, commenting on remarks by Armenian Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan that Yerevan would seek to purchase gas “from everywhere it is possible.”

The Russian Security Council also stressed that Russian gas is considerably cheaper for Armenia than supplies from alternative sources.
