Türkiye halts service for Gazprombank UnionPay cards due to US sanctions
UnionPay cards issued by Gazprombank, which has been sanctioned by the US Treasury Department, are no longer being serviced in Türkiye, according to sources within the Turkish banking sector.
The source explained that Gazprombank's UnionPay cards are no longer supported in Türkiye because the bank has been added to the sanctions list, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
“The suspension of services happened automatically, and there was no need for any specific notification to Turkish financial institutions, nor was any received,” sources noted.
The decision to halt services was reportedly made by UnionPay system owners, meaning the Chinese authorities, to whom inquiries regarding this matter should be directed.
Earlier reports indicated that Gazprombank's UnionPay cards had been discontinued in several other countries worldwide.
