Georgian military road reopens after overnight closure
The Georgian Military Road has been reopened to all types of vehicles after being closed overnight due to the threat of mudslides, the Emergency Situations Ministry of North Ossetia announced on July 21.
"In connection with the possibility of ensuring the safe passage of motor vehicles, traffic is now permitted for all types of vehicles on the section 'Vladikavkaz – Lars' in both directions," the ministry said in a statement, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
The road was shut down during the night as a precautionary measure following mudslide risks reported on the Georgian side of the route.
Reports say that over 3,000 heavy trucks were registered in the electronic queue waiting to pass through the "Verkhny Lars" checkpoint, a key border crossing between Russia and Georgia.
