A large group of Azerbaijani citizens remains stranded at Moscow’s Vnukovo International Airport after their flight to Ganja was delayed for more than 25 hours and ultimately canceled without clear explanation.
The Utair flight, originally scheduled to depart at 05:40 a.m., was first delayed by nearly 20 hours before being abruptly canceled, leaving frustrated passengers with no alternative arrangements or official guidance from the airline. The situation was reported by one of the affected Azerbaijani nationals attempting to return home, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“Airport staff claim that Ganja airport is not accepting our flight,” the passenger said. “But we know this is false. We contacted Ganja Airport ourselves, and they assured us that the problem is on the Moscow side. They have no restrictions in place.”
With communication from both Utair and Vnukovo Airport staff limited and inconsistent, tensions have escalated among the stranded passengers, who say they’ve been left in the terminal without proper support, updates, or accommodation.
“Now they’re saying there are technical issues with the aircraft,” the passenger added. “We are being treated with disrespect, and not a single representative from the airline is answering our questions.”
The passengers, many of whom include families and elderly travelers, have expressed growing concern about their safety and wellbeing amid the prolonged delay. No timeline has been provided for when, or if, a replacement flight will be arranged.
As of now, Utair has not issued a public statement clarifying the circumstances surrounding the delay, nor has it addressed the mounting criticism over its handling of the incident.
