Russians warned of abnormal rainfall, flood risks

Several Russian regions could face unusually heavy rainfall this autumn, potentially triggering new floods, Vladimir Semyonov, director of the A.M. Obukhov Institute of Atmospheric Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, has predicted.

Semyonov said for autumn, in terms of weather and climate anomalies, he would single out abnormal precipitation associated with cyclones, which can and have led to flooding, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.

The expert noted that heavy rainfall is generally typical for this time of year in Russia. However, cold weather and snowfall could arrive earlier or later than usual in some regions, which could adversely affect ecosystems and agriculture.

Earlier, Tatyana Pozdnyakova, a leading specialist at the Meteonovosti news agency, said Moscow was expected to experience abnormal weather in early September.

According to her, warm weather was expected in the capital on August 31, followed by a cold spell on the evening of September 1.

Central Russia had already seen its first frosts, according to earlier reports.
