UAE blasts Iran over drone attack, warns of “dangerous escalation”

The United Arab Emirates’ Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned Iran’s overnight drone attack on its territory, calling it a dangerous escalation.

“The United Arab Emirates has strongly condemned the hostile Iranian attack on the country involving a drone that was intercepted by air defence systems over UAE territorial waters, in a dangerous escalation that constitutes a flagrant violation of the country's sovereignty, security, and stability, and poses a direct threat to the safety of its citizens and residents,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement posted on its X account.

The ministry stressed that the UAE reserves the right to respond proportionately to Iran’s actions.

Earlier, the UAE Ministry of Defence said it had destroyed a drone launched from Iranian territory. It also denied reports in Iranian media that an attack on the UAE’s Al Minhad Air Base had been successful. Meanwhile, Iranian broadcaster Press TV, citing the country’s armed forces, reported that helicopters at Al Minhad had been successfully hit.
