Heavy rains to lash Georgia, triggering flood, landslide fears
31 August 2026 18:33
Georgia is preparing for a spell of severe weather, with forecasters warning that heavy rainfall could trigger flooding, landslides and mudflows across parts of the country.
As Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media, most areas of Georgia are expected to experience heavy rain on September 1–2, with thunderstorms, hail and strong winds also possible.
The National Environment Agency of Georgia said the anticipated rainfall could lead to a significant rise in water levels in rivers.
The agency also warned that the additional precipitation could increase the risk of landslides and mudflows, particularly in hilly and mountainous areas.
The associated hazard level has been assessed as moderate, according to the agency.
