Germany: Gunman opens fire on Turkish café in Cologne PHOTO

An unknown gunman fired several shots at a Turkish café on Bonner Straße in Cologne on Monday morning, prompting a large police operation.

Police received an emergency call at around 7.30 am after witnesses reported hearing several shots, according to a police spokesperson, Caliber.Az reports, citing German media.

Officers found several bullet holes at the scene and recovered cartridge cases. Police said four shots had been fired and the cartridges were 9mm calibre.

The area was extensively cordoned off as police carried out their investigation. Police dogs were also deployed, according to a witness.

No one was injured, a police spokesperson said.

According to eyewitnesses, a man dressed in black and around 1.70 metres tall fled the scene. He is believed to have fired at the café from the opposite side of the street.

Several other shootings have been reported in Cologne and the surrounding area in recent days. On Sunday, two unidentified people fired at a detached house in Erftstadt-Köttingen near Cologne, with several bullets hitting the house, a car parked outside and a neighbouring property.

On August 21, unidentified gunmen opened fire on a jewellery shop in Cologne-Mülheim. A few days later, shots were fired at a residential building in Cologne-Vingst.

Police are investigating whether the incidents are connected.
