Putin, Xi hold high-level talks in Bishkek on Russia-China cooperation UPDATED

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping are holding bilateral talks on the sidelines of the meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) in Bishkek.

Putin noted that cooperation between Russia and China is successfully developing across all areas, Caliber.Az reports.

The Russian delegation includes Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Maxim Oreshkin, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov, Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov, Economic Development Minister Maxim Reshetnikov, Energy Minister Sergey Tsivilev, Special Representative for Investment and Economic Cooperation with Foreign Countries and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund Kirill Dmitriev, and Rosatom CEO Alexey Likhachev.

This marks the leaders’ second in-person meeting in 2026. In May, Putin visited China on a two-day official visit.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has arrived in Kyrgyzstan on a state visit, TASS reports.

The Russian leader will participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit, which will be held in Bishkek from August 31 to September 1.

The gathering marks the bloc’s 25th anniversary since its founding in Shanghai in 2001, with Kyrgyzstan serving as chair under President Sadyr Japarov and the theme “25 Years of the SCO: Together Towards Sustainable Peace, Development, and Prosperity.”

The event brings together leaders of the SCO’s 10 full members—Belarus, China, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan—along with participants in an expanded SCO Plus format that includes observer states, dialogue partners, and international organisations such as the UN.

Discussions are expected to cover regional security and counter-terrorism, economic connectivity, including transport and energy projects, digital cooperation, and broader efforts to promote a multipolar world order.
