Uzbekistan Airways flight makes emergency landing for in-flight birth
On July 19, a Uzbekistan Airways flight travelling from Istanbul to Tashkent became the scene of an extraordinary event when a baby was born mid-flight, leading to an emergency landing in Urgench.
According to the airline’s press service on its Telegram channel, “Today, July 19, on board Uzbekistan Airways flight HY 282, flying from Istanbul to Tashkent, a truly special event took place — a baby was born in the sky. During the flight, one of the passengers went into premature labour.”
Thankfully, two doctors were on board and, alongside the flight crew, quickly provided the necessary medical assistance to the mother.
“By decision of the captain, the plane made an emergency landing at Urgench Airport (in western Uzbekistan), where doctors were already waiting for the mother and her newborn son. The family was quickly taken to a local clinic,” the statement added.
What was meant to be a routine flight turned into a remarkable moment, welcoming new life high above the clouds and demonstrating the crew’s readiness to handle unexpected situations with care and professionalism.
