Head of Georgia's State Electrosystem resigns after nationwide blackouts
03 August 2026 15:00
The head of Georgia's State Electrosystem (GSE) has stepped down following widespread blackouts across the country.
According to Georgian media reports, Vano Zardiashvili resigned from the post of his own accord.
“He is currently on leave and will formally leave the company afterwards,” Supervisory Board member Giorgi Abramishvili said.
Abramishvili stressed that the resignation was not linked to the Energy Regulatory Commission's findings on the mass power outages of July 24–25, adding that infrastructure problems that have accumulated over decades cannot be blamed on a single individual.
