Türkiye, Saudi Arabia hold talks on maritime security alliance for Red Sea

Türkiye and Saudi Arabia are continuing technical consultations on the creation of a multinational maritime security alliance aimed at protecting commercial shipping in the Red Sea, the Bab el-Mandeb Strait and the Gulf of Aden, according to Türkiye Gazetesi.

Although Ankara has not officially joined the initiative, it considers the security of key maritime routes and critical energy infrastructure to be a strategic priority.

The report said the proposed alliance was discussed during an international meeting held in Riyadh on July 30, which brought together representatives from 51 countries and the European Union.

According to the publication, 14 countries have already expressed support for the initiative. The alliance's headquarters is expected to be based in Saudi Arabia.

The proposed coalition would focus on protecting international shipping lanes, preventing attacks on commercial vessels and safeguarding global trade along one of the world's busiest maritime corridors.
