Moldova condemns Russia’s Oreshnik strike on Ukraine
Moldovan President Maia Sandu stated that Russia used the “Oreshnik” ballistic missile not only to intimidate Ukraine, but also its international partners.
"We firmly condemn Russia’s launch of an Oreshnik missile against Ukraine—hitting energy infrastructure and civilian homes," she wrote on X.
She said the act of terror aims to intimidate Ukraine and its partners.
"This war is moving closer to Europe and is a danger to us all. We stand united with Ukraine."
On December 9, Russia carried out a large-scale attack on Ukraine overnight, causing fires and casualties in Kyiv and hitting a critical infrastructure site in the Lviv region.
In Kyiv, power outages followed a barrage involving drones and ballistic weapons. Mayor Vitali Klitschko said multiple residential buildings were damaged, with emergency crews evacuating affected areas.
Four people were killed, including a medical worker responding to the attacks, and ten were injured, half of them requiring hospital treatment. A fire also broke out near Chernihivska metro station, where a family of four died.
In Lviv, a strike damaged a critical infrastructure facility, with monitoring groups suggesting an “Oreshnik” missile may have been used near Stryi, which hosts a gas storage site. Authorities have not confirmed the type of weapon.
