Russian attack: Four dead in Kyiv, critical infrastructure damaged in Lviv photo / video
Russia carried out a large-scale attack on Ukraine overnight, triggering fires and casualties in Kyiv, while a strike in the Lviv region was likely conducted with an “Oreshnik” missile.
In Kyiv, power outages were reported after a massive nighttime barrage involving drones and ballistic weapons.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the city suffered significant damage: numerous residential buildings were hit, multiple fires broke out, and emergency crews evacuated residents from affected areas.
According to updated information, the January 9 attack in the capital left four people dead and injured ten more. Half of the wounded required hospitalisation.
Authorities also reported the death of a medical worker who had arrived on site to assist victims.
A fire erupted near the Chernihivska metro station following an impact in that area. Local channels reported that a family of four was killed there during the night.
In the Lviv region, a critical infrastructure facility was damaged in the strike, according to Politika Strany. Monitoring groups earlier suggested that an “Oreshnik” missile may have hit near Stryi, a district that hosts a gas storage facility and an underground gas reservoir.
Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi confirmed that a critical infrastructure site had been damaged, though he did not disclose which one. He added that there was still no certainty that an “Oreshnik” missile was responsible for the strike.

Following the attack, local public channels shared images of a red glow in the sky. Lviv-based outlets wrote that the intended targets may have included the Stryi gas field as well as the underground gas storage facility.
