Moldova withdraws from EU's "Creative Europe" programme due to lack of benefits

19 August 2024 14:41

The authorities of Moldova have decided not to participate in the European Union's "Creative Europe" programme, which is aimed at supporting the cultural, creative, and audiovisual sectors.

During a briefing, Moldova’s Minister of Culture Sergey Prodan explained that the decision to withdraw was due to a lack of benefits, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.

The country contributed over 400,000 euros to the programme's fund in the form of fees but ultimately received only 38,000 euros for the implementation of its cultural projects.

"Unfortunately, our society has not been mature enough to take advantage of the opportunities presented. There were few projects, and unfortunately, they did not meet the criteria of the democratic, transparent, and independent European jury. Over the entire period, only two or three of our projects won in the competitions, which led to the decision to withdraw from the program," said the minister.
