Israel shifts focus to Northern Front as war enters new phase

Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant has announced a strategic shift in Israel’s military operations, with the focus now moving toward the northern front as a "new phase" of the war unfolds.

“The centre of gravity is moving north. We are diverting forces, resources, and energy toward the north,” Gallant told Israeli Air Force personnel at the Ramat David Airbase, in remarks released by his office, Caliber.Az reports, citing Israeli media.

Earlier in the day, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) deployed its 98th Division to northern Israel after the unit had been engaged in combat in the Gaza Strip for several months. The division, which includes commando brigades and paratroopers, is being positioned in anticipation of potential escalations along the northern border, particularly with Hezbollah forces in Lebanon.

“I believe that we are at the onset of a new phase in this war, and we need to adapt,” Gallant said. “We will need consistency over time, this war requires great courage, determination, and perseverance.”

Gallant further outlined the goals of Israel’s operations in the north, stating, “Our war goals in the north are clear and simple: to return the residents of the towns in the north to their homes safely.”

Despite the heightened focus on the northern front, Gallant emphasized that the military has not lost sight of its ongoing objectives in Gaza, particularly the efforts to secure the release of hostages held by militant groups.

“We have not forgotten the hostages and we have not forgotten our tasks in the south. This is our duty and we are performing it at the same time,” he added.

This shift in strategy signals Israel's preparation for broader regional challenges as the conflict continues to evolve.
