Moldovan ex-president urges incumbent president to hold referendum on EU accession
Moldovan ex-President Igor Dodon has said that his successor, incumbent president Maia Sandu is going to convene an artificial rally of supporters of European integration before the visit of European officials.
In his Telegram channel, he noted that if she is interested in the real opinion of people on joining the EU, then it is necessary to put this issue to a referendum, according to Gazeta.Ru.
“Sandu’s statement is a political PR of the ruling party and her personal PR. This appeal has nothing to do with Moldova’s national interests. She wants to show artificial support for the vector of European integration on the eve of several European leaders’ visit to Moldova. If she is really interested in the opinion of people, let her hold a referendum on this issue,” Dodon said.
The Moldovan ex-president pointed out that Sandu is going to hold a party rally using administrative resources, while Moldova does not have money to pay pensions and salaries.
He also added that this shows her so-called "care" for the country’s citizens.
