MP: Azerbaijan actively seeks Chinese investments for Karabakh

02 April 2025 20:25

Azerbaijani MP Fariz Ismailzade has said that Azerbaijan is actively pursuing Chinese investments for its liberated territories, particularly for Karabakh, as part of its broader economic strategy.

Ismailzade made this statement during the conference entitled "Azerbaijan–China strategic partnership: Consolidation and Promotion of Cooperation in the Global South" in Baku, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

He highlighted the impressive growth in trade and economic relations between Azerbaijan and China, noting that trade turnover between the two countries hit a record $3 billion in 2024, marking a 40 per cent increase from the previous year.

A key development that Ismailzade pointed to was China's initiative to build a new railway linking Kyrgyzstan with Uzbekistan and eventually reaching the Caspian region.

He explained that this infrastructure project would not only boost trade turnover between the two countries but also strengthen the Belt and Road Initiative, which has become a cornerstone of China’s global economic strategy. Ismailzade also stressed Azerbaijan's determination to attract more Chinese investments to its liberated territories, particularly in Karabakh.

"We are committed to creating favorable conditions for Chinese companies, providing them with opportunities to participate in Azerbaijani state investment projects," he added, underlining the strategic importance of this cooperation for the country’s development.

A conference titled "Azerbaijan–China Strategic Partnership: Consolidation and Promotion of Cooperation in the Global South" kicked off in Baku on April 2.

The representatives from the Communist Party of China (CPC) attended the event, organised by the New Azerbaijan Party.

The conference began with performances of the national anthems of Azerbaijan and China, followed by a moment of silence in honour of the martyrs who died for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity.

In his opening speech, Deputy Chairman of the New Azerbaijan Party Tahir Budagov highlighted that the relationship between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the People's Republic of China is based on friendship, mutually beneficial cooperation, and a strong strategic partnership.

Budagov further underscored the historic significance of the Joint Declaration signed last year by both leaders, which established a strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and China. He described this declaration as a crucial milestone in further strengthening bilateral relations.
