MP: German army able to withstand two days of fighting
Deputy head of the CDU/CSU bloc faction in the Bundestag (German parliament), defence expert Johann Wadephul has said that the Bundeswehr (German army) in its current state will only be able to withstand two days of fighting.
“The main military units can withstand a maximum of two days in battle. Overall, this is a catastrophic result,” Gazeta.ru quotes Wadephul from an interview with the DPA agency.
The MP also commented on the words of the head of the German Ministry of Defence, Boris Pistorius, who stated that Germany should be ready for war. According to Wadephul, people like Pistorius should be concerned about protecting the army from a “bad state of affairs”, but so far the opposite situation has been observed.
The expert also noted that the German army has still not received compensation in the form of weapons for the supply of guns and ammunition to Ukraine. In this regard, Wadephul doubts that Germany will be able to report to NATO on the formation of a new combat-ready division in two years, as stated.
Finally, the deputy proposed introducing universal conscription in Germany, noting that otherwise, the country would not be able to provide effective defence.
