UAE president pardons over 900 prisoners ahead of Eid Al-Adha
President of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has issued a directive to release 963 inmates from correctional facilities across the country in celebration of Eid Al-Adha.
In addition to ordering their release, the president also pledged to settle all financial penalties imposed on the prisoners, who had been convicted of various offences, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
The decision reflects the president’s intention to offer the pardoned individuals a chance to rebuild their lives, reunite with their families, and rejoin society as productive members.
This latest initiative continues a long-standing tradition of granting clemency during significant religious and national occasions. Such pardons are intended to bring hope and relief to the inmates and their loved ones, while reinforcing societal values of tolerance and second chances.
Authorities emphasized that the gesture aligns with the spirit of Eid Al-Adha, a time marked by charity, reconciliation, and renewal. The pardon is also part of broader efforts to support social cohesion and rehabilitation within the UAE’s justice system.
