19 March 2026 20:35
US President Donald Trump has said the US is not planning to put boots on the ground in Iran.
"I'm not putting troops anywhere - and if I was, I wouldn't tell you," the US president said in resoinse to a question from a reporter during a White House meeting with Japan's new Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi, Sky News reports.
He goes on to call the conflict "an excursion", adding that "it's going to be over with pretty soon".
Speaking about Iran, he adds: "Their navy is gone, their air force is gone, their anti-aircraft equipment is gone, we're flying wherever we want... their leadership is gone.
"I had to take this little excursion and do something that no other president had the courage to do," he added.
