Cuba to introduce Russian as primary foreign language in schools

Russian will be introduced as the primary foreign language in Cuban schools starting from the next academic year, according to the Ministry of Education of Russia.

The decision was reached during a meeting of the Russia–Cuba working group on educational cooperation held in Moscow.

“The Russian and Cuban sides agreed to develop cooperation in areas such as vocational secondary education, exchange of experience in working with children with disabilities, and advancements in digitalisation,” the ministry said in a statement.

Discussions also covered the operation of Open Education Centre platforms and the expansion of the “Russian Teacher Abroad” humanitarian initiative.
