Iranian missile strikes Haifa refinery, no serious injuries reported
An Iranian missile struck the Bazan oil refinery complex in Haifa Bay, damaging parts of the facility and prompting safety checks for possible hazardous material exposure. Sirens sounded across much of Israel following the launches from Iran and additional rocket fire from Lebanon, Ynet reports.
Officials confirmed the refinery site was hit, though the full extent of the damage was not immediately clear. Plumes of smoke were seen rising from the complex after the impact. Preliminary reports suggested the missile carried a cluster warhead, scattering fragments across multiple locations in the Haifa area. Power outages were reported in parts of the city, apparently caused by damage to local infrastructure.
Emergency responders were quickly deployed. Fire and Rescue Services sent 15 firefighting teams to the Bazan site, working to extinguish fires and sweep the area for hazards. The service said crews had secured the location and were monitoring conditions for potential hazardous material incidents. No injuries were reported at the refinery. Authorities later confirmed no hazardous substance leaks were detected.
Energy Minister Eli Cohen said the impact on the northern power grid was “localized and not significant.” Israel Electric Corporation teams restored electricity to most affected areas and continued reconnecting remaining locations.
Magen David Adom reported no serious injuries in Haifa. In nearby Yokneam, one person sustained light injuries after a vehicle was hit by shrapnel. In Shfaram, several individuals were treated for shock at another impact site.
