National Congress rep: Armenia becomes hostile to Russia

14 February 2024 16:09

Vice-Chairman of the Armenian National Congress Levon Zourabian has said that today Armenia has become hostile to Russia, relations are frozen, and everything is seen as demarche.

“We can say that we are not leaving the Eurasian Economic Union [EAEU], we are not leaving the Collective Security Treaty Organisation [CSTO], etc. I think that the main reason is that we still think about not giving Russia a formal reason for any action against us. However, if we consider the de facto situation, then all relations with Russia are frozen, and Armenia is now pursuing a policy of being a satellite state of the West,” Zourabian told the Armenian media, Caliber.Az reports.

“The turning point is that Armenia is already taking deliberate hostile steps. For example, if Armenia develops relations with the West, invites observers from the EU and at the same time refuses CSTO observers. This means that Armenia is saying that Russia is our enemy, while the EU is our true ally. Secondly, if Armenia ratified the Rome Statute, knowing about Russia’s reaction, then Armenia is already taking steps not to diversify, but to instill hostility,” he noted.

“That is, there is no logic or adequacy in the policy being pursued by Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. Obviously, this can not be explained by logic. Pashinyan is under pressure by some circles. Perhaps, Western circles urge Pashinyan to greatly weaken Russia’s position in the Caucasus. That is, Armenia’s actions are aimed at weakening Russia’s position and the Russians understand well that these are hostile steps,” he added.
