Georgian PM advises Macron to focus on Ukraine rather than on elections in Georgia
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has advised French President Emmanuel Macron to focus on Ukraine.
On January 6, Macron stated that Russia had become much more aggressive towards its neighbours, citing the parliamentary elections in Georgia on October 26, 2024, as an example, Caliber.Az reports per Russian media.
The French leader noted that Russia attempted to destabilise the electoral process in Georgia.
“Let the president of France focus on Ukraine, which has been sacrificed with the aim of its destruction. I am speaking about a real issue. I cannot comment on lies, but I comment on the real problem that everyone faces today—that is, a destroyed Ukraine,” Kobakhidze told Georgian journalists.
Parliamentary elections in Georgia were held on October 26. According to the final results from the Central Election Commission, the ruling Georgian Dream - Democratic Georgia party won with 53.93 per cent of the votes, securing 89 out of 150 seats in the parliament. Four opposition parties also passed the five per cent threshold, but they, along with ex-President Salome Zourabichvili, refused to recognise the election results, claiming they were fraudulent. Opposition leaders began organising protests on November 4, 2024, demanding a review of the results.
