Putin claims Ukrainian forces lose 8,000-12,000 personnel every month

03 September 2026 14:20

Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday, September 3, that there was currently no need for a new mobilisation in Russia, dismissing reports of possible plans to call up additional troops as a “deliberate information operation.”

“There is no scenario today that would require mobilisation,” Putin said during a plenary session of the Eastern Economic Forum. “This is an information attack by the enemy ahead of the State Duma elections, aimed at trying to influence the outcome.”

Putin said Russia had no problems with the number of personnel participating in what Moscow calls its special military operation. He claimed that Ukrainian forces were losing between 8,000 and 12,000 personnel each month and that their monthly losses were continuing to rise.

According to Putin, Ukrainian military losses were “significantly higher than the number of people joining as a result of forced mobilisation.”

“As far as the availability of servicemen is concerned, we have no problems here,” Putin said.
