Ombudsperson: Azerbaijan strengthens protection of migrants, stateless people’s rights
Azerbaijani Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsperson) Sabina Aliyeva has said that modern global challenges, such as armed conflicts, crises, and natural disasters, lead to large-scale population movements.
Aliyeva highlighted this issue during a seminar on "Protecting the Rights of Foreigners and Stateless People Held in Facilities They Cannot Leave Voluntarily", Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
She noted that the intensification of migration flows in recent years has positively impacted the demographic and economic conditions of countries, influencing human rights protection amidst social adaptation and the development of relationships between migrants and the local population and state agencies.
The Ombudsperson noted that Azerbaijan's growing economy and its expanding influence on the international stage attract citizens from various countries. She emphasised that Azerbaijan is actively protecting the rights of migrants and stateless people by cooperating with international organisations.
She also underscored the importance of enlightenment, legislative improvements, and strengthening international cooperation in this sphere.
