Azerbaijan's Parliament rejects Luxembourg's resolution, slams unfounded accusations
The Milli Majlis (Parliament) of Azerbaijan has strongly condemned the resolution adopted by the Chamber of Deputies of Luxembourg on November 20, calling it a biased, unjust, and unfair act.
In a statement, the Azerbaijani parliament rejected the unfounded accusations made against the country within the resolution, Caliber.Az reports.
The statement described the political action as an indication that the Luxembourg Parliament has become an arena for political adventurism. It emphasized that the resolution demonstrated clear disrespect for Azerbaijan's sovereignty, its national security measures, public stability, and territorial integrity. The Milli Majlis further stated that the resolution amounted to a blatant interference in Azerbaijan's internal affairs.
The statement also addressed the allegations related to the snap presidential election held in Azerbaijan on February 7, 2024, calling them completely baseless. The Milli Majlis reiterated that Azerbaijan had made significant strides in improving its electoral practices, which have been recognized internationally. The election, they noted, were conducted fully in line with national legislation and Azerbaijan's international obligations.
Claims regarding unauthorized arrests and restrictions on freedom of assembly were also strongly refuted. The Milli Majlis clarified that any arrests were based on solid evidence of violations of national law and followed all necessary legal procedures.
Azerbaijan also rejected the accusations regarding political prisoners, labelling them as part of a campaign aimed at discrediting the country. The parliament stressed that such attempts to undermine Azerbaijan's efforts to develop civil society and strengthen democratic processes were regrettable.
While reaffirming Azerbaijan's commitment to constructive dialogue with international partners, including Luxembourg, the Milli Majlis emphasized that such dialogue must be grounded in mutual respect and international law.
The statement concluded with a call for the Chamber of Deputies of Luxembourg to abandon the aggressive rhetoric and practices of adopting resolutions that contradict the principles of parliamentary dialogue and diplomacy, thus undermining trust and cooperation.
