Azerbaijan, India strengthen ties in high-level diplomatic talks

Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov has met with newly appointed Indian Ambassador Abhay Kumar to discuss the current state of and future prospects for bilateral relations between the two nations.

The sides underlined the importance of the inter-ministerial political consultation mechanism, describing it as a vital tool not only for enhancing cooperation but also for addressing any differences between Baku and Delhi, Caliber.Az reports, citing Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry.

They emphasized that historical ties provide a strong foundation for the relationship, and welcomed ongoing developments such as direct flights between the countries and expanding collaboration in tourism and education.

Energy cooperation was a key topic during the talks. Officials highlighted India’s ONGC Videsh acquisition of a stake in the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli oil field block and the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline as a cornerstone of economic partnership.

The parties also addressed regional security concerns, noting heightened tensions in the Middle East. Ambassador Kumar expressed India’s gratitude to Azerbaijan for assisting in the evacuation of Indian citizens from Iran.

FM Bayramov congratulated the ambassador on his appointment and wished him success in his diplomatic mission. Kumar, in turn, reaffirmed his commitment to advancing Azerbaijan-India relations across all areas, signaling continued strategic cooperation between the two nations.
